What Is Optative Sentence ?
Ans: যে sentence দ্বারা ইচ্ছা, প্রার্থনা বুঝায় তাকে Optative Sentence বলে।
The sentence which expresses a prayer, keen wish, curse etc. is called an optative sentence. This kind of sentence generally starts with ‘may’ and ‘wish’. Sometimes, ‘may’ remains hidden.
Example:
- May you live a long and happy life together.
- God save you!
- Peace be upon him.

Define Optative Sentence
Optative Sentence (ইচ্ছা বা প্রার্থনাসূচক বাক্য): যে Sentence দ্বারা কোন ইচ্ছা প্রকাশ করা হয় বা প্রার্থনা করা হয়, তাকে Optative Sentence বলে। অর্থাৎ, যে সকল কাজ মানুষের করার ক্ষমতার বাইরে, সে সকল কাজ কাউকে করতে বলা যায় না। সে ক্ষেত্রে আমরা কেবল ইচ্ছা প্রকাশ করতে পারি বা প্রার্থনা করতে পারি। এ ধরনের Sentence ই Optative Sentence. তুমি দীর্ঘজীবী হও – May you live long. সাধারনত: Optative Sentence এর শুরুতে ‘May’ modal বসে। May বাদ দিলে Sentence টি Assertive form এ চলে যায়।
Optative Structure: May+subject+verb+extention.
