Advance uses of modal auxiliaries (modals)

আজকের এই অধ্যায়ন টি মনোযোগ সহকারে পড়বেন । এটি পড়ার পর modals নিয়ে আপনার যত সমস্যা এগুলোর সমাধান হয়ে যাবে । এবং সেই সাথে modals এর ব্যবহার সম্পর্কে জানতে পারবেন । তাই অনুরোধ থাকবে সম্পন্ন অধ্যায়ন ভালো করে পড়ে নিন । এবং পড়া শেষে নিজে নিজে প্র্যাকটিস করুন তাহলে বিষয়টি আরো ভালোভাবে বুঝতে পারবেন । আমরা সাধারণত যখন ইংরেজিতে কথা বলি তখন এই ওয়াড গুলি হরহামেশাই ব্যবহার করা হয় । কিন্তু এগুলোর ব্যবহার না জানলে আপনি ইংরেজিতে কথা বলতে গেলে একটি স্থানে গিয়ে হলেও বাধার সম্মুখীন হবেন ।

এছাড়াও গ্রামারের বিভিন্ন প্রয়োগে modal auxiliary বা modals এর ব্যবহার করা হয় ।

What is modal auxiliary ?

◼ ক্রিয়া সম্পাদনের ধরন বোঝানোর জন্য যে ওয়ার্ডগুলো ব্যবহার করা হয় তাকে modal auxiliary বা modals বলা হয় ।

মডেল অক্সিলারি অন্যান্য সাহায্যকারী ক্রিয়া থেকে ভিন্ন -

যেমনঃ
এ শব্দগুলো শেষে ed, en ইত্যাদি যোগ করা যায় না
সব সময় এই শব্দগুলোর base form অর্থাৎ presenr form হয়

Modal Auxiliary বা Modals গুলো কি কি ?

Will - জিজ্ঞাসা
Would - অনুরোধ
Shall - জিজ্ঞাসা
Should - প্রস্তাব
Can - সামর্থ্য
Could - সামর্থ্য
May - সম্ভাবনা
Might - সম্ভাবনা
Must - নিশ্চয়তা
Mustn’t - নিষেধ
Dare - দৃঢ বক্তব্য
Daren’t -করতে ভীত হওয়া
Needn't -না বাচক
ought to - নৈতিক বাধ্যতা
used to - অভ্যাস

এই ওয়ার্ডগুলো সাধারনত modal auxiliary বা modals

Uses of shall, will -

Will - will you go to school ?
Shall - shall I do the work ?

When to use will ?

Take Decisions - সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে

1. For things that we decide to do now.
This is when you make a decision at that moment, in a spontaneous way.
I'll call a taxi for you.

I think we'll go right now. (I just decided this right now)
Which one? Um, I will have the chicken sandwich please.

Prediction - ভবিষ্যদ্বাণী
2. When we think or believe something about the future.
This can be based on personal judgement or opinion.

The President will not be re-elected at the next election.
I think it will rain later so take an umbrella with you.

I think you will find the movie interesting.
Notice how you often use "I think..." before the subject + will.

Offer, a Promise or a threat - প্রস্তাব, একটি প্রতিশ্রুতি বা একটি হুমকি

3. To make an offer, a promise or a threat.

You look tired. I'll finish the dishes for you.

I will do my best to help you.

If you say anything I will kill you!
I will have it ready by tomorrow.
I'll drive you to work if you want.

Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. (won't = will not)

Predictable Behaviour - অনুমানযোগ্য আচরণ

4. For a habit that is a predictable behaviour

My daughter will fall asleep as soon as she is put into bed.
He will give up if he starts losing. He always does that.

Won't Can Be Use In Negative Sentence

এছাড়াও না-বোধক বাক্যের ক্ষেত্রে উইল এর ব্যবহার করা যেতে পারে -

5. You use won't when someone refuses to do something.

I told him to clean his room but he won't do it.
She won't listen to anything I say.

Negative Sentences with will
In the negative, we add NOT to the end of WILL and not to the main verb. (= will not)
Examples:
I will not be in the office tomorrow. (correct)
- I will be not in the office tomorrow. (Incorrect)
They will not stay here. (correct)
- They will stay not here. (Incorrect)

Uses of should, would -

Use Of Should

☑ To express something that is probable
Examples:

John should be here by 2:00 PM.
He should be bringing Jennifer with him.

☑ To ask questions
Examples:

Should we turn left at this street?
Shouldn’t you be getting ready for work?

☑ To show obligation, give recommendation or even an opinion
Examples:

You should stop eating fast food.
You should go for walks more often.
We should go to the park tomorrow.
He should go to the pharmacy first thing in the morning.

Use Of would

☑ To ask ‘who’, ‘what’, ‘where’, ‘when’, ‘why’ or ‘how’ (not always, but often)
Examples:

How would you do that ?
What would you do if…
When would we have time to do that ?
Who would want to wait in that line ?

☑ To make a polite request
Examples:

Would you like any tea ?
Would you like anything else ?

☑ In hypothetical situations
Examples:

If I had a lot of money I would like to own a farm one day.
I would love to buy a boat one day.
